The West Suburban Fire District, formerly the Loretto Volunteer Fire Department and the Hamel Volunteer Fire Department, are two distinguished departments dedicated to protecting and serving the community.
On July 1, 2023, the two departments officially merged and marked a significant milestone in our shared commitment to provide prompt and effective fire protection services. The merged department, now named the West Suburban Fire District, is led by experienced fire service professionals from both departments.
We are a paid on-call department with all training and events paid along with a retirement pension for years of service on the department.
Residents and businesses can expect continued excellence in fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous material response, and fire prevention programs.
We have two stations, one located in Loretto and the other in downtown Hamel. We are a combination department with a full time chief and paid on-call firefighters.
