All commercial buildings with a fire alarm or sprinkler system are required to have a lockbox installed. This allows firefighters to access your building quickly during an emergency. This saves valuable time and prevents us from having to force entry, which can cause significant damage.

We require that the lockbox is installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications in a location approved by the Fire Chief. You can purchase a lockbox from the KnoxBox website. The 3200-style commercial box is acceptable for most applications.

Fire Department Connection (FDC) caps are also required on all new commercial buildings and any existing buildings where caps are missing.

While residential lockboxes are not required, they are available for any resident who wishes to install one.
